Katatonia

Katatonia se formó en el 1991, por el dúo compuesto por Anders Nyström y Jonas P. Renkse, los cuales, tras la incorporación del bajista Guillaume Le Huch, publicaron su primera demo titulada Jhva Elohim Meth ... The Revival. Un año después dicha demo se publicaría como un EP.

En 1993 graban su primer disco, Dance of December Souls, ajustándose perfectamente a los patrones de bandas como Anathema o My Dying Bride. A continuación sacaron el EP, For Funerals to Come y tras un split con la banda irlandesa, Primordial; publicaron Brave Murder Day, un disco que seguía la estela del disco anterior aunque su sonido se hizo algo más suave. Después de estas publicaciones, Katatonia sorprendió a sus fans con el lanzamiento del álbum '"Discouraged ones". En este álbum el grupo se apartaba de los estándares del doomdeath metal, perdiendo la voz gutural, para aproximarse un poco al tipo de metal gótico a veces llamado dark metal. Con el paso del tiempo el grupo ha ido aumentando su popularidad álbum tras álbum, aproximándose a un estilo más alternativo y popular, manteniendo un estilo realmente único y opresivo.

Opeth: The Roundhouse Tapes (2007)

"The Roundhouse Tapes" es el último CD de esta gran banda sueca llamada Opeth. Fue grabado en vivo el 9 de Noviembre de 2006 en Camden Roadhouse en Londres, U.K.

El disco recorre en 9 temas lo mejor de la historia de la banda. El sonido es muy prolijo y se nota claramente la profesionalidad de la banda. Sin dudas es un excelente recopilación.

Opeth

Opeth es una banda sueca de metal progresivo que posee en sus composiciones influencias del rock progresivo, del jazz y de guitarras acústicas de corte clásico y folk, además de una notoria influencia de death metal que se aprecia más que nada en la manera de cantar de su vocalista Mikael Åkerfeldt y su a veces ruda propuesta musical, pero no puede ser tan simple, y decir que Opeth es death metal es caer en una equivocación grave y no hacer justicia con sus grandes méritos, ya que su música es mucho más que eso.

Tomaron su nombre de un libro de Wilbur Smith; ya que en dicho libro "Opet", significa ciudad de la luna (la "h" fue agregada posteriormente para el nombre de la banda, por un motivo netamente estético de su pronunciación en inglés).

Covenant

Covenant es un trío sueco formado por tres amigos, Joakim, Clas y Eskil, cuya música ellos mismos meten en el cajón de la EBM, futurepop o simplemente electrónica oscura. Su primer disco fue editado en 1994, Dreams of a Cryotank, y luego de tanto tiempo después siguen en la brecha de los 140bpm, los synth-leads, los filtros distorsionados y unas letras tan densas e interesantes como siempre.

Su música está influenciada y surge desde bandas tan míticas de la EBM/Futurepop como Front 242 (creadores del género), Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode, Front Line Assembly, Funker Vogt, VNV Nation o Apoptygma Berzerk. Estilos muy acordes en estética gótica, futurista, oscura e industrial.

Aunque Covenant nunca ha sido de las bandas más conocidas de estos subgéneros de la electrónica, siempre por debajo de los más famosos, con el tiempo han ganado adeptos y son cada vez más respetados. De igual manera sus discos han ganado profundidad y calidad con el paso del tiempo.

Lake Of Tears - Moons And Mushrooms (2007)

Lake Of Tears es una banda sueca que surgió en el año 1992. Su estilo musical es una mezcla entre progressive/doom/gothic metal y es ideal para relajarse y pasar un buen momento.

"Moons And Mushrooms" es su séptimo disco full-lenght. Con esa gran voz y gitarras bien heavy, Lake Of Tears sigue el mismo camino que venía llevando en obras anteriores. Profundas letras y grandes melodías hacen una atmósfera muy buena a la hora de escuchar el disco.

Tiamat - Prey (2003)

Tiamat surgió en Suecia en el año 1989 bajo el nombre de Treblinka.

Tiamat es una diosa de la mitología babilónica y sumeria.

En "Prey", octavo disco full-lenght de la banda, Tiamat alcanza su punto máximo y desde la primer nota de la primer canción se nota que el disco comienza de inmediato sin más preámbulos. Es un gran disco, infaltable en la discografía de toda persona que le guste el Gothic Metal.

El disco sigue el estilo clásico del grupo pero todavía más profesionales. La suave voz de Johan Edlund, letras oscuras y ritmos perfectos hacen de Prey, sin duda, uno de mis discos favoritos de esta gran banda Tiamat.
