Katatonia

Katatonia se formó en el 1991, por el dúo compuesto por Anders Nyström y Jonas P. Renkse, los cuales, tras la incorporación del bajista Guillaume Le Huch, publicaron su primera demo titulada Jhva Elohim Meth ... The Revival. Un año después dicha demo se publicaría como un EP.

En 1993 graban su primer disco, Dance of December Souls, ajustándose perfectamente a los patrones de bandas como Anathema o My Dying Bride. A continuación sacaron el EP, For Funerals to Come y tras un split con la banda irlandesa, Primordial; publicaron Brave Murder Day, un disco que seguía la estela del disco anterior aunque su sonido se hizo algo más suave. Después de estas publicaciones, Katatonia sorprendió a sus fans con el lanzamiento del álbum '"Discouraged ones". En este álbum el grupo se apartaba de los estándares del doomdeath metal, perdiendo la voz gutural, para aproximarse un poco al tipo de metal gótico a veces llamado dark metal. Con el paso del tiempo el grupo ha ido aumentando su popularidad álbum tras álbum, aproximándose a un estilo más alternativo y popular, manteniendo un estilo realmente único y opresivo.

Serotonal

Serotonal es una banda de Liverpool, creada en 2004 por Darren White, Jon Francis - White, Gary Hill, Simon Monkhouse y Stan. Darren White fue el primer cantante de Anathema, una de las precursoras de la Doom Metal británico, y más tarde The Blood Divine.
A finales de 2003, Francisco Blanco, Hill y Blanco se reunieron para probar algunas de sus ideas, y en 2004 grabaron sus primeras canciones. Estas cuatro canciones ahora están disponibles para aquellos que pueden estar interesados para escuchar las primeras grabaciones de Serotonal.

Anathema

Anathema es el nombre de una banda inglesa de la ciudad de Liverpool, que - junto con Paradise Lost y My Dying Bride - colaboró con el desarrollo del Doomdeath Metal. A partir de su tercer álbum, Eternity, Anathema se ha alejado paulatinamente de la escena doom e incluso del metal, siendo considerada en la actualidad una banda de Rock atmosférico.

Formada en el verano de 1990 en Liverpool (Reino unido) por Daniel Cavanagh, la banda comenzó con el nombre de Pagan Angel con Darren White (voces), Daniel Cavanagh (guitarra), Vincent Cavanagh (guitarra), Jamie Cavanagh (bajo) y John Douglas (batería). En el noviembre de 1990 lanzaron su primer demo An Illiad Of Woes grabado en MA Studios que cultivó un estilo muy ligado al black metal con voces muy guturales y guitarras muy distorsionadas. Posteriormente el nombre de la banda cambió al de Anathema, y comenzaron a ganar mayor aceptación y publicidad en parte gracias a las apariciones junto a bandas como Bolth Thrower y Paradise Lost.

Opeth: The Roundhouse Tapes (2007)

"The Roundhouse Tapes" es el último CD de esta gran banda sueca llamada Opeth. Fue grabado en vivo el 9 de Noviembre de 2006 en Camden Roadhouse en Londres, U.K.

El disco recorre en 9 temas lo mejor de la historia de la banda. El sonido es muy prolijo y se nota claramente la profesionalidad de la banda. Sin dudas es un excelente recopilación.

Rapture - The Silent Stage (2005)

Es evidente que Katatonia es el punto de partida de muchos grupos actuales, pero mientras estos suelen centrarse en rendir pleitesía a una época de los suecos en concreto los finlandeses Rapture rizan el rizo y se las apañan para recordarnos a todas las épocas de Katatonia en un mismo tema.

Formados en 1997 en Helsinki como un proyecto paralelo entre miembros de reconocidas bandas como Finntroll, Shape Of Despair, Ensiferum o Fragile Hollow con el propósito de crear un atmosférico y melódico a la par que contundente y poderoso doom-death al año siguiente editaron su única demo “Gloomy Daydream” con la que consiguieron fichar con el potente sello Spikefarm, en 1999 es editado su debut “Futile” y en 2002 y 2005 lo mismo sucede con “Songs For The Withering” y este “The Silent Stage”.

Una vez hecha la presentación de estos poco conocidos Rapture paso a hablaros de su, por el momento, último disco: Como he dicho antes, Rapture tienen la habilidad de concentrar en un sólo tema todas los discos de Katatonia, los principales artífices de este hecho son sus dos vocalistas: mientras uno evoca al pasado más rudo y lejano de los suecos con su vozarrón gutural el otro nos retrotrae a los últimos y más atmosféricos discos de los susodichos con su delicado registro limpio, ambos conviven con unas guitarras lentas y marcadas, un bajo y una batería atronadores que van con pies de plomo y la dosis justa de teclados para enfatizar la ambientación de este ameno (apenas sobrepasa los 40 minutos, por lo que no cansa en absoluto) y gran disco.

Los fineses ofrecen una continuación lógica de sus discos anteriores pero mejorada y carente de defectos, y aunque “I Am Complete” sea el mejor tema del disco gracias a ese pegadizo estribillo y a ese estremecedor final de piano no puedo desmerecer a otros temas como “The Past Nightmares”, “Misery” (estas dos os recordarán a Daylight Dies pero sin los toques “opetheros”), “Dreaming Of Oblivion” o esas tremendas instrumentales que son “For The Ghosts Of Our Time” y “Completion”.

Opeth

Opeth es una banda sueca de metal progresivo que posee en sus composiciones influencias del rock progresivo, del jazz y de guitarras acústicas de corte clásico y folk, además de una notoria influencia de death metal que se aprecia más que nada en la manera de cantar de su vocalista Mikael Åkerfeldt y su a veces ruda propuesta musical, pero no puede ser tan simple, y decir que Opeth es death metal es caer en una equivocación grave y no hacer justicia con sus grandes méritos, ya que su música es mucho más que eso.

Tomaron su nombre de un libro de Wilbur Smith; ya que en dicho libro "Opet", significa ciudad de la luna (la "h" fue agregada posteriormente para el nombre de la banda, por un motivo netamente estético de su pronunciación en inglés).
